Responsibilities:

Application Assessment:
  • Catalog and analyze existing subsurface applications, including versions, dependencies, and compatibility with the target environment.
  • Evaluate application health, performance, and stability.
  • Identify and document custom integrations and scripts.
  • Assess the viability of existing applications and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed.

Data Mapping and Analysis:
  • Identify and document all sources of subsurface data, including databases, file servers, and cloud storage.
  • Map data flows and dependencies between applications and databases.
  • Analyze data volumes, formats, and integrity.
  • Identify and document data management practices and business rules.

Workflow Documentation:
  • Conduct interviews with subsurface professionals to understand existing workflows and data usage.
  • Create process maps and documentation for key subsurface workflows.
  • Capture business rules and logic embedded in applications and workflows.

Migration Strategy and Execution:
  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive migration strategy, including phasing, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Assist in selecting appropriate data migration techniques and tools.
  • Develop data validation procedures to ensure data integrity post-migration.
  • Contribute to the creation of a rollback plan for risk mitigation.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on subsurface operations and applications.
  • Strong understanding of subsurface workflows, including seismic interpretation, geological modelling, reservoir simulation, and drilling.
  • Experience with common subsurface software applications (e.g., Petrel, Eclipse, Openworks).
  • Knowledge of data management principles and best practices.
  • Experience with data migration projects, including planning, execution, and validation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under pressure.
  • Ability to identify issues and provide solutions
  • Self-motivation and accountability
  • Ability to work independently and recognize items that require escalation
  • Communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Understand team dynamics and how to increase work efficiencies

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with cloud-based technologies and migration to cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, databases, and networks.
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and techniques.
  • Project management certification
